A Jacket on a Chair

We alle have one. We all have that one chair. We all keep throwing T-Shirts, Jumpers and trousers on that chair. The same one that for no other reason is in our bedroom.

Sometimes It also seems inappropriate to use it as we do with all of it’s “sisters” but that what makes it special. Where would all those clothes be?Too clean for the washing machine, but too dirty for the closet. Maybe this custom, of giving a new job to a chair, has its origins in this very painting, when Conerlis Bisschop, dutch painter of the 17th century, surely didn’t have a washing machine nearby, but a unused “Stuhl”.

I don’t think any of this is true, but in case you’re in Berlin why not popping up at the Gemäldegalerie and see for yourself!
